TR1112 Error with substring function

Hi,

there is probably a very simple solution for my problem.
I try to cut away a part of a string with the substring function but I get always the TR 1112 Error ("The function used in the exspression is not valid&quot

For example substring("COLUMNxy",2,5) doesn't work and I get always the TR1112 Error.

Any advice would be helpful

All I can determine is that "COLUMNxy" must be of type "string" and must be at least as long as your starting postion parameter and length parameter do not exceed the length of the srting.
Besides that, I've not experienced the TR1112 error.
(Just checking the most obvious possibilities).
