Hello again.
I have a column chart. Each rectangle represents represents several categories. I would like to show the total for each rectangle.
example:
year cat.1 cat.2 total
1990 2 3 5
1991 6 3 9

If I draw a column chart of cat.1 and cat.2 per year, I would like to show the totals on top of the bar (5 and 9).

Thanks for any hint.

Requires a little bit of imagination. Plot all your values including the totals in the chart.

Select the Totals series, right click and change the Chart Type to a Line chart. Right click on the line chart, choose Format Data Series . On the Patterns tab, choose None for lines and for markers, so it's invisible; on the Data Labels tab, choose Show Values. Press OK.

Right click on the data labels, choose Format Data Labels and on the Alignment tab choose Above for the option.

Hi,

"I would like to show the total for each rectangle."

Chart/Chart Options - Data Labels tab - check Value.
