Hello ... quick question for anyone who may be able to provide an answer.

I'm using ArcServe 7.0 for my NT backups. In the job log there are two fields that seem self explanatory.

"Total Size (Disk)"

and

"Total Size (Media)"

These seem fairly straight forward, but when comarping some of the values, often, the "Total Size (Media)" is much greater than the "Total Size (Disk)".

I was under the impression that the total size on media should be smaller because of compression.

Any insight?

Thanks,

kovacsa

The size on media calculation includes the size of the actual data plus the metadata that ARCserve saves on the tape. Size on media is generally larger than size of disk because of this metadata.

The only way that you can reduce the size on media is to turn on compression. And this only works well if your data can be compressed to a smaller size.
