Hi,

This is probably a really dumb question and I'm sure there must be loads of tutorials that answer my question but I've brought 3 books on flash and can't find it.

I want to quite simply have a number of images that fade in and out like this and I'm not quite sure how to do it.

I've come close a few times but mine all jump about and don't have smooth fade in/out transitions like this one.

Does anyone know of a tutorial or something where they use photos - all the books I've brought use pictures drawn in flash rather than the photos.

Any help greatly received.

Thanks

Charlotte

It can be easily done along the timeline, where one image fades itself out using the alpha channel, before the next fades in again using the aplha channel.

There is also a fade In and fade Out slider so you can control the speed and style of your fade.

this is very long winded... but it works...

-if you put a picture in "frame 1" of "layer 1", press F8 and convert it to a graphic...
-click on the graphic and go to the properies tab (window / properties)
-where it says "color" use the drop down menu and select alpha...
-change this to 0% and your graphic will become invisible

-next create a "new keyframe" along the timeline somewhere still on "layer 1" this will set the timelimit for which your image will "fade in" - (eg "frame 10")
-go to properties again and change the alpha back to 100%

-again make a "new keyframe" along the timeline, (eg "frame 20") this time period will set how long the image is visable for before fading out...

-again make another "new keyframe" further along the timeline (eg "frame 30") and make the alpha 0% again
-now select "frame 1" on the timeline and go to properties, where it says "tween" select "motion" and repeat steps for "frame 20" (or whatever frames you used) the timeline should go blue for them frames and show a black arrow pointing to the right.

now when you play your movie your picture will fade in gradually from "frame 1" to "frame 10" stay opaque from "frame 10" to "frame 20" and gradually fade out from "frame 20" to "frame 30"

- now right click "layer one" on the timeline and click "insert new layer"
-repeat all of the above steps for your next picture, only start in a new keyframe after your previous image has faded out (eg "frame 30")

i hope this helps... sorry for the massive essay haha

Thank you for the detailed steps, that's exactly what I need!

I now actually have a chance of doing it.

Many, many thanks, you've saved me from pulling all my hair out!
