Hi,

We use ArcServe 6 and a Sony SDT 9000 DAT Drive. I was wondering how much we could fit onto a DDS3 Tape with compression. I know it says 24gig on the tape but we have managed to backup 26gig from the summary in the Job Log.

Is there any way of finding out in Arcserve?

Can anybody help?

The stated capacity of compressed media is based on a 2:1 compression ratio. This was agreed a few years ago by most tape manufacturers as being reasonable. We generally find we get a 1.5:1 compression on NT systems and have had nearer 3:1 on AS/400 - it is purely down to the nature of the system being backed up and the appropriateness of the compression algorithm to that particular type of data. In other words, your results are perfectly reasonable.
