Toshiba Satellite 4300 series Internal Mars v.90 modem problem

There is a problem with my internal 56k v.90 modem with my Toshiba latptop (Satellite 4300 series). After restart or shutdown the modem driver needs to be reinstalled every time. If it is not, and I go to connect to the internet, I get the following message "communication port is invalid or busy." But reinstalling the modem and restarting it (which is a big hassle to do every single time) temporarily fixes the issue.

Does anyone else out there have this problem? How do you get computer to RETAIN the driver after shutdown or restarting?

Sorry, but 'nice' to hear that others have the same problem as I have. I am sitting in the middle of Africa with extremely bad Internet con.
So I awaiting any good answer to this irritating problem
