I have a Toshiba phone switch, and I'm looking at changing out voice T1 from a supertrunk to a PRI.

Our telco says that we shouldn't need to change any hardware to make this change happen. They say that it should just be a software change.

The company that supports our phone switch is telling us that we have to trade in our current T1 card and pay $750 for a refurbished T1 card. Plus about $300 of after hours work to install and configure.

Does this sound right? I've got no problem paying for the install time if new hardware is required, but I'm not big on paying almost $1000 w/ tax just to reconfigure our T1.

I beleive that we have a CTX. It's a much older phone switch.

The reason for the change is that our supertrunk doesn't support caller-id. Also the PRI is about $200 per month cheeper. And I'd rather not have to wait 6+ months to realize the cost savings.

(Anyone with supertrunks and SBC might want to call there sales rep. This is a special that they are running.)

I'll take any advise that anyone can offer.

how does your telco know about your equipment???
They cant even get DT correct???

Trust your vendor or shop around and get a few quotes...

There are several switch brands that do have separate cards for T1 vs PRI (fujitsu, nortel, avaya definity). Some have cards that can be used for either, but not all.

Thanks to both of you.

I am a Toshiba tech on the CTX. The CTX does use a different card for T-1 than a PRI. By the way, thats a good price they are giving you for a PRI card. Hope this puts you at ease.

It does. Thanks.
