Am installing Norton Antivirus on a Toshiba laptop and midway through the install, it simply shuts down the laptop (electrically). Does not reboot, simply powers the machine down as if a setting has been done in Power Options that tell the hard drive to shut off. However, no such setting has been set.
Really just trying to see if this is a Norton issue or something that others have encountered when installing Norton regardless of what platform installed on?

have you run a pre-install scan of the system to ensure it's not already infected with a virus?

Also, try copying the installation to the hard drive, so that
the CD drive is NOT used while installing. It may be a power issue, but you would experience that with other CDs if that was the case....try another CD and see if same thing happens.

Or install from network, or USB key...

How about installing anything else - any problems? Is there anything in event log (run eventvwr.msc)? Machine running ok otherwise?

If its a personal machine, what about installing AVG free edition instead. Better AV and much less resource hungry than Norton.

Thanks for the helpful tips.
Will have to try these suggestions and report back.

Thanks.

for god's sake get rid of norton. it's nothing but headache. many people are having problem with network, booting, and shutdowns.
