I have a Non for Profit that just had a managed IP system installed by their dialtone vendor. They have two facilities. One with a now out of service small Toshiba strata and 3 Toshiba door phones and one Toshiba controller, the other facility has a large Strata and 1 Toshiba door phone and one Toshiba controller.

Both are analog CO systems. I want to leave the systems in place and just use a (CO port) to call out of the system on an incoming Analog dialtone provided by the VOIP at one of the VOIP extensions through an ATA.

Isn't it possible for the Toshiba to outcall to the port to open the channel and call the VOIP System?? I am a wire guy, but it seems that if we used these out of service processors and existing controller and phones that somehow this could work.

Looking for help folks. Thanks. Joe

Personally, I would look for new door phones, but If you must use the existing, i think the best you can do is to reprogram the toshiba phone system to have its door phone call one of its analog station ports, then cross-connect that station port to a CO input on the VOIP system.

Users would then see a door call as incoming on line X, but in the 3 door site, there would be no way to tell which door is calling. Unfortunately, anyone trying to out-dial on that line X is going to get confused when they pull toshiba intercom dialtone and can't complete a call.

What level of Strata... III, e DK...?

Doorphone ringing assignments...would call an EKT- extension. eg. 10-41. I don't remember EKT's being able to externally call forward well as unsupervised conferences tended to lock up loop start CO lines. They worked pretty good I installed a few in large Industrial Freezers.

If the Strata had an ATA it uses two extensions to create one analog port. eg. 20-21 but it could ring in as a loop CO on another system.

ATA's connect through OPX circuits were a pain off the Toshiba... especially if ordered, it would appear polarity sensitive and ring voltage would be lost. (Most OPX's were ordered as PBX -> KEY and because Toshiba was tariffed as a Key, the order for an OPX circuit from a KEY system were conditioned the wrong direction. I expect the same would happen when ordering OPX circuit from a VOIP to a Key...
