Hello,

Just had a Toshiba Satellite P770-118 laptop come in, from eBay.
The BIOS/CMOS has a password on, and needs resetting - I'm told this is something to do with the jumper pins, does anyone know how I go about resetting this?

Regards,

Warren

Gently does it. If gently doesn't do it, smash it with the hammer.

Thanks for the response, You Tube is blocked on the company network.

We found out through another channel that you need to short out the JPW pins which are beneath the RAM, for 20 seconds on boot up.

The video that hairlesssupportmonkey mentions on YouTube is for the Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5518. However, comments show that the method has also worked for the following:
Satellite A300 PSAG8E (where the jumper contacts were labelled XXXB500)
Satellite A505
Satellite A505-S6980
Satellite L355-S7905
Satellite L355-S78312
Satellite L655
Satellite C855D-S5100
Satellite C855D-S511D
Satellite C655-S5132
Satellite C655-S5307
and even a new Qosmio X875-Q7380.
There were a lot of other comments that it worked but posters didn't include the model nos.
Note that there were several comments that it cleared the BIOS password but there remained a hard disk password.
If you can't use YouTube then let me know if you can access Google Drive, MS OneDrive or DropBox and I'll put the video in a public folder.
