Torn effect to create transparent middle

I have a sash that I created in Illustrator, and my intentions are to create a torn effect in the middle of the sash where some video will play through.

Ive searched the net for torn effect tutorials and they are a plenty, but none that will show me how to create a square torn effect in the middle of the grpahic that once done, will be transparent to allow that video to come through.

Any ideas anybody
