Hi Everyone,

I was woundering if I write SQL code to query Topspeed tables?

I already know SQL because I come from an Oracle background and it would be nice to simply create a bunch of queries and slip them into the filter field of a browse procedure or to filter any browse on a form using SQL.

Thanks.

Hi Emad,

Only by using the Topspeed ODBC driver which as of v4 was not top notch. I have no idea about v5.

Hi ShankarJ,

I will have to skip the Topspeed odbc driver since I can't afford addional software at this time.

I am hoping that this functionality is included with Clarion 7.

Thanks.

Truly,
Emad

Hi Emad,

As far as I know, the Topspeed driver does not support SQL filters or syntax. Could you give a specific example of why a SQL filter is better than a standard Clarion Filter? B'coz it depends on the Database Engine for SQL and the View Engine for ISAM to optimize the query. And, optimization in both would depend on the indexes/keys/contraints. Of course, being able to use PROP:SQL to execute set level updates would be a definite advantage for Topspeed. Also, why don't you move away from Topspeed and use the free SQL databases like SQL express, PostGreSQL & Firebird.
