we have a purely 3com network in place.
Most of our switches are 4200-series, with a couple
of 4500G and some older models (3300) thrown in for good measure.
Now, for some strange reason, the 4200's are sending out Bridge Topology change messages, although no actual change is occuring:
we've upgraded the software version on the 4200s, but to no avail. we've checked everything we can think of, but we're getting nowhere fast. We run a couple of telnet-based apps on the network, and this brief glitch is enough to terminate the connections.
has anyone else come across this?

RFC 1286 - Standard Bridge topology change notification.
A topologyChange trap is sent by a bridge when any of its configured ports transitions from the Learning state to the Forwarding state, or from the Forwarding state to the Blocking state. The trap is not sent if a newRoot trap is sent for the same transition.
