Why not use NetMon? Version 2 ships with the OS but version 3 is way better.

Yes, works great for troubleshooting. I took a course on analyzing the packets which is a bit deep, but it can quickly give you an idea if you are troubleshooting communicaitons between a server & client or if you are looking for the source of any kind of IP hailstorm etc.
