Whe I run the 'top' command on my machine
I've got the following output for CPU usage:
Cpu(s): 0.5% us, 0.3% sy, 0.0% ni, 99.1% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si
So,
99.1% for idle time, min value for idle was 95%.
But in %CPU column for top processes there are
values even greater than 10%.
How can these processes use the CPU more than say 10%
when idle time for CPU is permanently greater than 95%?

How many CPUs are there in the system? Does it have hyperthreading?

You may find that the amounts for the individual processes are a percentage of individual CPUs, but the amounts in the summary are an overall view of the system including all CPUs. Try experimenting with the 'C' command to display all of the individual CPUs, if they are not already shown, or perhaps the 'I' command to use the Irix/Solaris method of calculating CPU usage in case that makes more sense to you.
