Tools panel vanished

I was working with freehand when all of a sudden the tools panel disappeared and nothing was left but an outline of it. The panel after a few seconds disappeared all together and I can't find out how to get it to show back up. Any help would be appreciated if anyone's had this problem. When I go up to WINDOWS and click TOOLS all that shows is a blank gray bar on the left where the TOOLS panel should be.

You don't say what version of FH or platform you are using. But you can delete your FH preferences file. It will be rebuilt when the program restarts. If you're on a PC, look for FHprefs.txt and delete it (or rename it if you're paranaoid). The same applies to the MAC, but I can't remember what the filename is.
A likely reason this happened in the first place is that you were working on a complex illustration and your system was low on memory or other system resources.
