Hello!

I might have to perform large reorgs soon,
so I would like to know if anybody has
used (or heard about...) one of the following tools (or some other tools of the kind):
- Patrol Db Reorg (from BMC)
- ManageIT Ts Reorg (from CA,
 formerly Platinum Ts Reorg)

Thanks!
Oracle8i has the ALTER TABLE ... MOVE command, which runs in PARALLEL with NOLOGGING. Can't beat it, and it comes with the database. However, if you're not on 8i, then this doesn't help.

Buying a reorg product perpetuates the original problem. The solution to tablespace fragmentation is uniform-sized extents within a tablespace, not a reorg product. Also, most folks reorg when they don't need to, based on the myth that "everything should be in a single extent". Multiple extents up to several hundred is clearly not an issue, as long as they are sized uniformly thus not creating a "bubble-fragmentation" problem within the tablespace. The ideal reorg product would be one that is used once (to fix the problem) and then never again, but I'm sure none of them are designed for that... :)
