Hi I'm building an application with 256 colour icons in my tool bar. When I compile the application the icons "fade". They seem to revert to 16 colours. If I add a 16 colour icon in the tool bar along with the 256 colour, the 16 colour icon remains unchanged. The 256 colour icons fade.

Would any one know a resolution. I am able to get around the problem by reloading all the icons on a compile but this takes a fair abount of time.

Thanks for any help.

Read the documentation on the listimage control(I am supposing that is what you are using). Icons by nature are only 16 color. To get around this use bitmaps or jpegs (to save space) and load images at run time.

Icons by their nature are not only 16 colour. This hasn't been the case on Windows for some time. However, it is true that a fair number of icon editors are limited to 16 colors for legacy reasons.

griv seems pretty sure that he has 256 colour icons, so the cause of the problem is likely to be something else.

OK strongm, maybe by nature is the wrong wording and you are correct but I do believe that loading the images at run time would solve the issue.
