I have a win98 computer and when I open internet explorer the toolbars are full of lines and I cannot read sometimes after a few minutes they come back

It looks more like a software than a hardware issue.

Have you done the whole lot of Win98 updates available from from the microsoft web site? There are many updates to the OS, to the browser and to other apps and drivers like Direct X and security patches for Internet, that will be done.

Then if the problem persists, you may think about upgrading the driver for your video card.

I think I found what the problem the fan is bad on the processor this is a Gateway profile 1 computer now all I have to do is find the fan Gateway does not stock it is a 5 volt Model AD4505MX-K90 if anyone knows where to find this please let me know Thanks

I read a "hacker" site once, where they slowdown normal fans to half speed to make them quieter. This is done by using a special resister, made for this purpose. This site (in England I think), had standard fans - resisters to slow them down - and half speed fans (5v.). This is what you may need, a half speed fan. It would run at full speed in your system. Do a Google search for cooling fans.

Something that may work, if the fan has gripped. If you can, take off the sticker from the center of the fan. It may show the bearing/bushing. Put a drop of oil on it. Use a tooth pick to use just a small quantity of oil, otherwise it may splash everywhere if the fan restarts spinning quickly. Rotate it with your finger, you may feel it turning better.
