Tool to list the security properties of a folder and the subfolders 1

Hi everybody,

I am looking for a tool or a script to let me know which groups and users are connected to a folder. Best would be a tool with which you can select a various number of folders to be checked.

you can use computer management to see all open files and the user that is accessing them, wont show the groups but you can check the group each user is in. if not, go to

http://www.download.com

and search for a tool.

Hi Jeff,

with connected I didn't mean logged on, I ment defined.

I need a tool which I can give the input of a folder-name and the output is a list of users who are allowed to access this folder in any way.

I had a look at download.com but was unable to find something helpful.

From the properties of the folder on the security tab you can view any permissions that have been set for that folder, if the inheritance box is not checked. For the sub folders if the inheritance box is checked then they will have the same permissions.

As for a gui that can view multiple folder properties at once, well, good luck. My guess would be that if there is one it will have to come from Microsoft since this software will be accessing the security database on the NTFS partition.

This doesn't address your issue, but you can view shared folders easily using the mmc. Go to start, run and type mmc. Then, go up to the console and select add/remove snap-ins. Select add, then scroll down till you find shared folders. You can choose your own pc, or select another pc, browse and check out the shared folders on different pc's. I use it to check the shares on my servers. (MMC has a lot of nice things in it. There may be something in there that can help.) Nifty trick and good luck. thanks for the tip. I do know about mmc, but am not too familiar with it. I am still searching for my tool and will post a solution here as soon as I am able to find one.
