Hello all. I am not sure how to explain this without refereing to something I use on an AS400/iSeries machine. On the iSeries you can edit DB2 data with a tool called a DFU. Works like any old editor, but its like a door right into the raw tables.

I am wondering if there is an editor that will allow you to edit records in Informix tables in this manner? I am really just curious more than anything...I really missed this utility when I first started using informix, but I have been forced to learn a modicum of SQL on my own to do stuff so I guess thats good.

Hi:

I'm not familiar with DB2 or DFU, but the closest thing I can think of is the "form" option that comes with is isql (No, dbaccess doesn't have it).

You could generate adhoc forms on the fly which could then be used to edit data.

Regards,

Ed

Thanks for the info olded...guess I better dig out a manual because while I have seen references to forms, my exposure to them is nill.
-thanks again

Hi:

If you have access to isql, there's not too much to it. The "generate" option steps you thru choosing a name and a table. Once it's compiled, press the "Run" option, choose a form, and the rest should be self-explanatory.

Ed

Another Option

I agree that ISQL Form is a good editor but another option I use frequently is Microsoft Access linked to my Informix Database. I know this isn't going to be a popular answer but with ODBC connectivity and MS Access you can really accomplish a lot.

Just my two cents (keep the change)

Happy Holidays
