Does anyone know if there are any tools which developers could use to view the databases on a SQL Server (2005)...

How about the tool that comes with SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

Red-Gate SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare allow structural/ schema/data comparisons and synchronization between databases.

As a DBA I would never allow developers access to any of those Red-Gate or Idera tools.

Are you looking for a tool to view the schema as diagram?
OR
a tool for developers to physically see the tables and query them?

If you need to create database diagrams use Visio Enterpise version.

If they just need a tool to write queries use SSMS.
