took off the IIS server from domain and now getting error 530

What mode was FTP setup for?
Since you have user directories, it sounds like the server was set-up in Isolated user mode using Active Directory. If your server is Windows 2003, you can Convert to Isolated user mode. You will have to create local User accounts on the FTP Server. Here are some links for more detailed info:
