My computer from work was brought home, and now the Outlook 2000 Inbox Messages are gone, along with Calendar entries. It treats me like a new user.

At work I was on a WinNT domain, here at home I switched to a workgroup with one other computer. I run Win2000 Pro. I used Internet Mail at the office with no Exchange server. I lost my user profile data, but that is a different matter. Indeed, I can restore the shortcuts and other custom settings, but I can't find my Inbox messages!

My Inbox messages are VERY IMPORTANT as they are job bids and engagement contracts that are faxed to me, but posted to my email.

I assume it has something to do with the user profile that Outlook was using, and security issues. I can not go into Control Panel-System and Copy To from the old WinNT domain profile. That profile appears to be listed as "Unknown Account", with no Copy To option. The IT guy at the office said the server does not store user's outlook data files, to his knowledge. I did a default install of Office 2000, but selected the D: drive.

I Searched for a text string common, but fairly unique to my email messages, and found a suspicious file of about 6 megs with a date stamp that looks about right. It has a .pkg extension. I have not a clue what to do with it.

Has Outlook stored my old email messages somewhere that I can get to? How do I get them back? I also lost all my Calendar entries. I searched for a .pst file, but found only an old one from May. Anyone - please advise.

Sounds like you were using profiles at work or storing your .pst file on the server in the office. Therefore when you log into email at home it cannot find the file.

Can you take the computer into the office and re set it up on the network and solve the problem that way? If not, check the contents of your network folders for pst and ost files.

If you are working against an Exchange Server in the office it is very likely that your actual message store is within the Exchange database.
