I'm using RedHat-8 and everything is spiffy but all of a sudden my network fails; I can't connect to any services, I can't ping any machine on my network. I tried running up2date to check for updates in a terminal window and after a while I get this funny error message saying "Too much work at interrupt, intrstatus=0x0040" and the network fails again. I thought that the NIC might have been faulty but it works fine under windows. BTW I'm using and Accton EN1207D-TX 10/100 NIC which is detected as RealTek RTL-8139, SMC EZ Card

Found the problem. I is actually caused by a faulty hub.

I realized the problem when I brought in another PC fitted with a 3COM 3c90x-TX card that apparently has hardware transmission control & error detection. The machine was throwing loads of errors when connected at 100base, less when connected at 10base, and no errors when connected back-to-back with another machine.

These errors acted like a DoS attack to my linux box and killed the ethernet interface. Windows was uneffected but most of the files transfered in my windows session was corrupted.

Is there anything we can set/configure under linux to be more resillient to DoS attacks?
