Too Much Pencil Smoothing?

People,

I'm working on a graphic illustration of a typical Ice Dam for my community newspaper; & in attempting to draw the snow areas on the roof, I seem to be getting too much smoothing out of the pencil tool.

I've tried adjusting the Fidelity & Smoothness in Pencil Tool Preferences...but the linestrokes seem to have a mind of their own.

Any way to take the settings down to no smoothing at all; & then start from there?
