Too much data showing -- join issue or related problem

I am using a TrackIt database and am creating Crystal Reports to examine and analyze the data.

When I insert two tables and do the necessary joining, I have no problems UNTIL I use the select function and try to tighten a query.
I immediately get four records for every one that has been entered. If I delete the select modification, all is well again.
I have used all types of JOINS and also multiple other tables and it repeats this problem.

Do I need to edit the SQL directly? Any options?

Thank you

Eric

Please include your software version with any post about any product.

It has little to do with "tightening" your query, it's that you are using the joined tables fields for the first time, so it honors the join.

Try no record selection (please don't make up technical terms/phrases such as select function and tightening queries, it just confuses people), and place fields from both tables on the report canvas, the same thing will happen.

It's called row inflation or record inflation, and is a part of the design of the database. Might read up on it.

Since you posted nothing about the data being returned, or what you want, you'll need to do that before we can help.

You can try Database->Distinct Records, but that probably won't help, they aren't dupes.

If you group by a common field, you can suppress the detail lines and just show the useful data in the group header or footer.
