I upgraded from Arcserv 6.5 to v9. I used to run one job for all servers and now I run 4 seperate jobs. I have 2 Adic Faststor 7 changers.. I used to use 5 tapes on 1 Adic to backup 185gb on arcserv 6.5 now I'm using 9 on 2 Adics to back up 190gb.. Seems like something is wrong.. I used DLT 40/80's and if my math is what it used to be I should be able to fit the backups on 5 tapes not 9. Am I doing something wrong, did I miss a setting??

Hi
run a count job and see how mutch data size it shows.

there are many factors effecting the usage of tapes effectively

have a look to old threads since I mentined these many times also you can find it in CA support site

If you change the amount of jobs from one to four and you have all the jos set to use a different tape and format it then you will have more empty space per tape.
with ARCserve you'll have to sort out for yourself how you can use the available capacity the most efficiently by 'load balancing' the jobs using the count utility as Mohamdr mentioned for example.

Are you running more than one job at a time? If so, you may be limited by the speed of the server, NIC, SCSI card, etc.

If you can't pull the data off of the server fast enough, the tape drive will pad the tape with empty space.

Do you have this problem if you run the jobs consecutively, as opposed to concurrently?
