I have a user trying to send out an email in Outlook Express, Windows 2000 Pro and is getting a strange error message. Strange because there aren't in my opinion that many addresses. My guess is he has 10 in the "TO" field and 25 in the "CC" field. When he attempts to send, he gets the following error message:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'john.doe@doe.be'. Subject 'Product Line Manager - Lawnmower Blades', Account: 'Ken's email', Server: 'smtp.silverstreak.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '452 4.5.3 Too many recipients', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 452, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Is this an Outlook Express problem, or a problem with my provider? Can anyone help?

I have never tried to send to that many people in Outlook Express but I know you can using Outlook. One thing you might want to try is using Visual Route from and you can trace any e-mail address, and see each hop it makes to find out exactly where the problem is or exactly where the message is being stopped, whether it is a firewall of server. It has been very helpful for me.

Thank you, that is a cool tool. Actually I found out that the problem was with our provider. As an anti-spam measure, they are limiting the number of recipients to 30. Seems like a low number to me since I assume spammers go for the 100's or 1000's. Thats Skytell/Hypervine for ya. Thanks for the help and the link on the tool.
