Do you think its a good a idea to install a lot of fonts. Will that cause anything to your photoshop like slowdowns while working?

Depends a lot on your operating system. Are you Windows or Mac? If Windows, which one? In the older systems, up to Win 98SE, having too many fonts in the Windows>Fonts folder will definitely slow your computer down. How many is too many? Depends on the lengths of their names. But aim for no more than around 300 active at any one time. Excess fonts can be stored in a separate folder, and reinstalled when you need them. Or get yourself a font manager.

Read these articles. For Windows:
and for Macs:

Well I'm talking about a hundred or more, and I have windows 98. I dont have SE. And did you mention the length of their names? Is there a way I could rename the font names? And can you tell me more about this font manager? What is it use for and where might I get one?

100 or more should not be a problem. You cannot rename the fonts to shorten their names. See this article:
A good article to start with on font managers is here:
I personally use Bitstream's Font Navigator, which comes packaged with Coreldraw. Other common ones are Adobe's Type Manager (ATM), a 'lite' version which comes with Pagemaker 7, and Extensis Suitcase.

There are also a number of freeware/shareware one available as well e.g. And here's a good overview of many font managers:
