I've just replaced a PC running Win XP and Procomm 4.0 with a Vista (Basic Home). Procomm has been running for years (Since Win95) serving simple ascii files to CNC machines. The WinXP box was replaced due to recent hanging while sending files to the machines. But now after 24hours of use the Vista machine is displaying similar problems.
I would consider purchasing Procomm 4.8 if I felt confident that it would remedy the problem but because it is no longer supported, I'm wondering if this would be a wise decision.
Would the experts care to chime in? Should I move on? Or stick it out? It really is a very simple file transfer task. Drip feeding ascii files to a machine over the course of several hours as it needs more data...

Supposedly when version 4.8 came out, it was to fix some problems in Windows 2000, so I would think you would need that version to operate on XP or Vista. I don't know that it would necessarily fix the problem you are seeing though.

With your application, it may be better in the long run to come up with a different solution. While I'm a supporter of Procomm, I don't see the wisdom of using it in a business critical environment running on Vista, especially since it's not technically supported for XP.

Thanks all for the help. I'm going to miss Procomm Plus, but I've found a reasonable solution that we will demo for 30 days. We would have preferred to continue using Procomm Plus... but alas, we must face so called "progress"
