I have been using Progressives Toner Tracer for years now but I am looking for something with a stronger signal that will work better for CAT 5 and 6. Also the one big thing about Progressive is that there is no way to tell if the battery is running low, there is no battery meter to let e know if my signal strength is low.

One more thing, they have no rubber case or protective cover so when I have dropped the Tracer they break and then I have to run to the store and shell out another 50 bucks or higher.

Thanks!

You don't need stronger signal for cat 5/6, you need to split pairs. If toning a cable that is patched to an Ethernet port, put tone on one of the wh/bl and one of the wh/bn conductors. You'll get tone right thru the patch cord.

Fluke makes one that works well with Cat5e and other cable combos but I found that it bled over to much for tracing phone cables.
