Does the CTLS(Continuous toner level sensing) on the 4550 use a PCA which monitors voltage bias of the developer roller, comparing the voltage to a known threshold value of a full toner cartridge?
Actually if you take out the toner cartridge you will notice two clear windows, and you'll be able to see toner in these windows. Basically, the printer tries to shine a light through one window, and it reads how much light gets through the second window. The more light that gets through, the less toner it has remaining in the cartridge.
