Is there anyway to block any number that is not deinfined in a company's DID range trying to go outbound?

For instance we have some major tolll fraud going on and it's coming from an extension that is not defined in the PBX (it's our main number from our carrier that points to a Recptionist) so we can't trace the origin of the call because it just shows our main number for the ANI.

do you have remote access setup "display remote-access" or outcalling enabled in your voicemail?
 
we use a telephony firewall that blocks incoming and outgoing calls that do not have caller id. It can also block certain area codes or tel numbers.

Avaya did at one time include 'toll fraud indemity' with a maintenance agreement. Do you have Avaya or BP maintenance?
I would problably have Avaya Toll Fraud group go in and lock down your system. There are all kinds of ways to do toll fraud with poorly written vectors and voicemail dial tone.

Call your local telco and insist they disconnect that call. Instruct your receptionist and all your users as well not to transfer anyone to extension 90#. If a person calls and states they are a Tech and need to test extension 90# this is how they are using your main list number. My users and receptionists are instructed to sent these techs to me And I will deal with them. Once I get them on the phone they usually hang up most never call back. But if you get to talk with them just PRANK them.

Be sure that trunk to trunk transfer is turned to "NONE"

This is in the "ch sys fea". This should keep someone from dialing in and back out.

What kind of telephony firewall and I'm assuming it will cost some $$?

We do have a BP over there. I'll have to ask about the toll fraud indemity

I removed trunk to trunk from the COS but not from sys features. I'll do that now.

This stinks!
 
We got hit for $38,000 worth in one weekend from a payphone in New York. Yeah. Your right. It stinks, but like most things today we have to be very careful not to leave any loop holes for the crooks. This is not the first time this has come up lately.

I hear you there. I need to go over every PBX I take care of for this stuff. What stinks even more is when you walk into a job that the last person left a mess. The there the time line, I have umteen other things to do ontop of this and now cleanup once we do get it stopped.

I had a case once that drove me absolutely bonkers. Avaya claimed everything on the switch side was ok, that it must be someone bridge onto my line.

Here's how we noticed it. We used software to that took the SMDR dumps and converted them in order to give us the ability to custom query the data, etc.

I got a call from our financial folks that there were international calls being made on one of our lines. I looked at the SMDR records and couldn't find hid nor hair of that number ever being dialed on our switch. We also noticed some other odd long distance traffic on a couple other loops that didn't show in the SMDR.

Avaya checked out the system and said it wasn't a problem there.

Turns out the building we were in abutted another building. Some of our lines were bridged into that building. We also discovered that Verizon techs working there had made calls to their LD service depots using whatever pair they wished.

Needless to say Verizon was a bit embarrased.
 
I think it cost us around $5000 for 1 trunk but that money was saved in the first 3 months of it working as nobody really understood how to nail down the pabx. I know checkpoint and this is very similar to use and it does a lot of other groovy things as well. Have a look at the website
