When two ID files are open at the same time, is there a quick way (perhaps a keyboard shortcut) to toggle from one to the other -- without having to minimize each and click back and forth?

You can go to Window menu/Arrange and select Tile

If you are using a recent version of OSX, press F10 to display all open windows in the active application. This is an OSX feature not ID. This is a feature called Expose - giving you all sorts of options. Go to System Preferences/Expose to learn more and see what you can do.
