LandoverM,
Create a query based on your table. Select the relevent fields needed. In the criteria section of the date field type;
date()
Use the "report wizard" to design a report. Use the above query for the control source.

A note:
If you want to choose a particular date type;
Like [Enter a Date]
This will bring up a "Enter parameter value" box and will select records for the particular date you enter.

For data between two dates type;
Between [Enter start date] and [Enter end date]
will bring up two "enter parameter value" boxes one each for begin date and end date.
You can enter any text you like between the braces.

My date field data type is actually a text type. Please advise how I would pull up todays date with text type field?

LandoverM,
First, why is the field text if it is a date?
How is the date displayed in the field, as June 28, 2002, or
6/28/2002, or just 6/28, or June 28?

Use the DateValue function on your text field to convert the data to date and use xaf294's suggestion on the converted column in your query.
