to start off with COGNOS

I got cognos CDs from some where but the versions are different. I have Cognos Impromptu/ Admin 5.0, cognos power pay 5.2 and cognos/impromptu 4.0. So I couldn't start using the existing catalogs for demo version. I understand from the help that I need a catalog do anything with cognos. So is there any way to make use of existing catalog? I also tried to create a catalog from the existing macros but didn't succeed. I was getting "#440 Name required" error. As I'm totally new to this, I don't know how to proceed. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. I want to know how do I start with this?

My first suggestion would be to get away from version 5.

If you insist on using version 5, get rid of 4.0.
Create your catalog manually in Impromptu 5.0, then you should have no problems creating IQD files you can use as datasources for cubes created in Powerplay Transformer 5.2.

I have only those CDs. Is there any way to get the software for other versions?

I'm not sure how you got the initial cd, but you could purchase the software from Cognos.
