Hi All,

We have a p 570 box,The guy who created a lpar he created it as a single partition using all the resources of that box. Now, i want to install Aix 5.3 using Nim for doing that i have to have a console from HMC. when i connect to HMC through Websm i can't open a console i.e by right click on lpar and click open a terminal this opens a console but cant type or do any thing with it just displays a black screen.when i putty that hmc and type vtmenu or mkvterm and enter the managed system number it asks me to enter the partition number since there are no partitions,How can i open the console ? Any clues or suggestions

Thanks in advance

What about when you are on the HMC. Does the terminal open? It should be fine right?

If yes then try installing the websm on another client and try again. IMHO Maybe it has to do with java on this client.

Khalid

Asak Khalid,

Yes,You are right I can open the terminal when I am on HMC.
So,I guess the only option is to install HMC right.

Thanks,
Rehaan.

Hi Rehaan,

No you can install using both from HMC and through WebSM!

Ok, let me go back to your question and clarify something.

You said that you want to install AIX using NIM right? So does that mean the lpar has no OS?

If so then what makes you say that you can open the terminal from HMC?

I think while you try to open a terminal on that lpar you need to access SMS first.

Have a look at this link for help:

Khalid
