to join tables by IDS (one of which is a substring)

Hello,

I have two tables. One of them contains Long IDS, while another one has a short oneS for the same members.

For example,FirstTable.id=111111bob12/03/2005
SecondTable.id=11111 (substring)

I need a quiery to join both tables by IDs. How can I do it?

SELECT ...
FROM FirstTable, SecondTable
WHERE Val(FirstTable.id) = SecondTable.id
