To Encrypt Or Not To Encrypt That Is The Question :)

I'm using MPPE encryption on my R7100 Netopia router. I was wondering since it really slows down the connection can I turn it off since we already have the VPN tunnel up. Are the packets safely tucked away behind the tunnel? Or do they really need to be encrypted. We're not dealing with any secret info anyway, so would it be alright to turn off the MPPE? Thanks for your time and posts on the matter.

Depends on how you are creating the tunnel. If its PPTP, then you should be okay, it has encryption built-in. If you are using L2TP than you need to implement IPSec if you have not already. If you have either of these scenarios you are good to go... Matt Wray
