How can I add a new line (record) to the .tab file by exporting data from FM 5.5 without overwriting the .tab file.
I would like to create a log file which will show all records created in FM even they were deleted later.

Can I do it?
Your help will be appriciated.

Thanks.

If you're on Windows, create an exe file to save the .tab file with a different name.

Or, to stay in FM, log your changes to a separate file with a relationship and some calculation fields.
You only need 6 more field in your application.
The final field will be a calculationfield, which you can put into the separate file.

JeanW,

thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I am a new in FM and it was not clear to me how to do it.
I am worknig with Windows 2000 OS, but I do not know what do you mean by "create an exe file to save the .tab file with a different name".
Also the second part is not clear to me. If it's possible, could you please to explain how to do it.

I do not want to overwrite an existing log file, but add a new record ( to keep track of history ) to the existing file by keeping all previous records.

Please advice.
Thanks.

It's not so easy to explain, now that I see you just start with FM.

To make things easy for you, send me a message from

I will have your emailaddress and can send you a sample file, which you can copy and change.

Basically you need a recordID field, a triggerfield based upon a case statement for all the field you want to trigger, this will be part of a relationship, a logData field to have the old and new data, a tempField to copy data based upon the relationship and a newData field, to hold the new data from all the fields.
The latter is a calculationfield. You can hold this field in the same file, or copy it into an other file.
