Having had such a great response to my question "to frame or not to frame?", I am hopeful to get an answer to the current question.

Putting a counter on a page seems to create a huge overhead. See and you will note that the page takes a fraction of a second to load and the invisible counter by "thecounter.com" takes ages (you can see it sitting there in the status bar).

Considering that I agreed to pay $9.95 per annum to have this counter on my site, I wonder if I am the victim of a scam.

Thank you for your comments, Helmut

Hi,

I really don't see why someone would put a counter on a page. My opinion is that it makes the page look «amateur».
Of course, I keep counts for my clients and for me, to see what parts of the site get the hits and stuff like that, but I really think it does not belong on a commercial or business site.

Bye.

In complete agreeance (that was not spelled right)

Your web host or a 3rd party vendor can keep a stats for you keep them off the page! :p

Hi, yahve, I agree with you that visible counters are amateurish.

However, this counter is invisible, put there only because I was persuaded that it will help me analize traffic to my site
So far, I haven't seen anything that my host's log doesn't show me for nothing.

Am I missing something or am I wasting $9.95 p.a.?

Thank you for your comments, Helmut

Personally, I think you're wasting your money. Especially since the program runs so slowly that it's obvious when the page is loading. Tracy Dryden
