If the vendor's name is not anywhere on the graphics card (which I am suprised that it isn't stamped somewhere on the card) and it is the original hardware that came with your machine you may want to check the PC vendor's site to see if they list the hardware specification of your machine.

Without knowing the vendor and model of your graphics card you are never going to be sure what the correct drivers you should load on your machine since PnP does not seem to be working for that card. Thus you will be limited to video settings using the standard VGA drivers.

This sometimes helps
You can try removing the device then rebooting:

Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
Device Manager
open Display adaptors (click the + sign)
Click on your monitor
Click remove
Click OK
Re-Start windows, let it find the new device and load drivers.

Much Luck

hi,
Joegz

with ref to my earlier message of today,
I installed the adapter type "3D"

after installation, I can move the sccreen area, upto
800 by 600 pixels

click - apply

then - restart the computer

after restart this message appears

There is a problem with your dispaly settings.
The adapter type is incorrect or the current setting do not
work with your hardware.

screen reverts to larger size. (also screen area is 640 by 480 pixels)

please advise your comments

Many thanks

I just re-read everything and while it does seem to have all the characteristics of a driver problem, I have questions.

Was this monitor and graphics board at any time up and running correctly on this PC?

If yes has anything changed since, eg video memory, same monitor different board or vice versa?

Don't take this as gospel but based on the information you provided I believe the graphic card you have is made by S3 Graphics.

First check to see if you have an S3 video driver available for the Savage 3D video card. If not go to In their drivers section they have a tool which you can download which they say should be able to identify your card if it is by S3.

You may just want to hear back from your supplier if the tool can not identify your card.

Hi
MSCallisto & Joegz

Many thanks for your reply.
this was running ok before, there was a problem due to that
I re-installed windows'98. nothing was changed.
after that this problem has occured.
======
I have driver installation for S3 graphic, have tried to install the S3 different type of driver, but the message appears that, the adapter type is incorrect or current setting donot work with your hardware.

I opened the web site: opened the driver section, then to download drivers,
errors appears, this page can not be opened.

have a nice day
