I have installed an PCI TNT2 64 32mb card on a PC running W2k. The card was detected and i installed the correct driver from the disc. I shutdown, unplugged the monitor from the on board socket and plugged it into the new card. Once restarted, all looks well untill it gets to the 'Windows is starting up' (with the blue line moving left to right). It gets to the end of the blue line and just sits there! If i plug the monitor back into the on board socket at this point, the PC is continuing to boot up as normal. I have reinstalled the drivers and card, updated the BIOS, tried the latest drivers from the Nvidia site, set the default vga to be onboard and PCI via the BIOS settings. Has any one got any ideas?Help, this is driving me mad.
CPU is a celeron 533, not that it matters.

you said that you "set the default vga to be onboard and PCI via the BIOS settings."

Do you want to use both video cards at the same time?

Sorry, i meant that i had tried it both ways - once with the onboard set to default, and once with the PCI as default.

Did you remove the drivers for the other Video card first? If not try that.

I have removed everything i can find that was associated with the old card. But, when i start the PC i get an error message appear which says 'unable to find *****.dll file'. I can't remember the exact message but it does mention the previous VGA name. Is there any way to clean the registry, as maybe it has not removed the old files cleanly?

When the PC is booting up hit the F8 key and try to load Last known good profile.

What brand of PC is this?

what is the exact model of the PC? In the mean time you can try this as well.

DISABLE A VIDEO ADAPTER IN THE DEVICE MANAGER -
* Open the case cover and add the new video card
* Restart the computer. At the blue Dell screen, rapidly tap the F8 key (do not hold it down)
* At some point, the Advanced Options menu will appear
* Scroll to and select Safe Mode [press Enter]
* Windows will start in Safe Mode. Close any boxes that may open, just get to the desktop
* Right click the My Computer icon
* Click Properties
* Click the Hardware tab and/or the Device Manager button
* Open the Display Adaptors. You should see both the the Intel and the added video card. The added video card might have an exclamation mark on it
* Double click the listing for Intel whatever
* At the bottom under "Device Usage", click the down arrow and change this to "Do not use this device, DISABLE"
* Click OK- Apply- OK
* Close all boxes when done
* Click Start- Shutdown- Shutdown- Ok or Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Turn Off
* Connect the monitor to the new video card
* Power on the system
* Load the drivers for the new video card

I tried this and it has worked! Thanks a lot for your help TJV.
