Hi there, just want to ask if there is a way I can decrease the size of the /tmp filesystem. I'll be needing some space to other filesystem ..Thanks...

Which version of AIX? Haven't done it myself, but I believe AIX 5 supports shrinking of FS. IBM Certified Confused - MQSeries

Quite correct there, got mixed up with paging space which can be reduced now.

Afraid levw is right, the procedure is to remove and recreate. IBM Certified Confused - MQSeries

aixmurderer and levw: Is he going to have to bring the system down to single-user mode when he rebuilds /tmp?

Also, Midrange, here's my tip: be sure to get the ownership and mode of your new /tmp filesystem right. I had to rebuild /tmp (to shrink it) on another Unix operating platform and when the system came back up one of the three apps running on the system wouldn't start. After a few hours trying just about everything, we discovered that /tmp had a mode of 755. The app needed to write to a file in /tmp and it couldn't because of the mode. Something we hadn't thought of because you rarely have to create /tmp.

mode of /tmp should be 2777
