.tmp files being left behind when exporting

I've got a vb app which exports to email, file, or printer. I'm using the readrecords method and then, for each output type selected, adjust the exportoptions properties. The problem is that it writes a .tmp file in the temp directory to cache it's data, and then just leaves it there. I found out when I ran out of disk space. (15K+ files in temp dir!)
If anyone is familiar with this issue, please advise.
