TLZ10-DB Testing

I have a tlz10-db tape drive and we get a lot of new ones in all the time. i was wondering if anyone out here and a good way to test these drives in VMS as of right now all i do is run a 20 pass backup to a tape and check the errors in the end but that just doesnt seem like enough to me.....

any help
