I have a database that is having some log issues. We changed the mode back to simple. Now I have manually set the log file to 500 mb and it is some how periodically changed to smaller sizes sometimes .48 mb other times 50 mb or 125mb.

No one else says they are changing anything and nothing shows up in the logs.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Use Profile and run a trace, you will probably find someone is changing it within code they are running.

Have you got a maintenance task that is set to shrink the log and reallocate the space?

I suspect Bill may be correct. I think our third party partner has some sort of program that is doing it but they won't fess up.

Nope, no maintenace job, I had already looked for that.

Thanks

It may be old 'embedded' code that your partner isn't aware of existing (developed long ago and no one remembers it). Running profiler should help you capture when it is happening and what/who is doing it.

Good luck.
