Does anyone have experience setting up monitors for Java stand alone applications.

I'm guessing this is for UNIX, since not a lot of people I know do much Java for NT.

In any case, can you provide more detail of what it is you're looking to do?

This is for an Windows NT application. I want to check the java application and see if it is running. The java.exe process is running inside the task manager windows however I was wondering if it would be possible to monitor the threads the application has started. This is a voice application running under Websphere Voice Response for NT. The solution I am looking for is similar to The IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance however I dont know how to implement minitoring methods for this apllication since it is not a web app. I implemented Tivoli Monitoring 5.1.1 into my Tivoli region. I am pretty much knew to the monitoring enviroment. I have set up a resource model to discover if the java process is running. I dont know what type of resource models that previous versions of monitoring incorporated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the world of confusion. I am having to relearn everything. The previous version of Tivoli Distributed Monitoring ("DM Classic") did not use resource modeling.

The monitoring in ITM is much easier to configure. It is also a lot easier to create custom resource models for application processes. I find that I do a lot less scripting now.

In any case, since I'm relatively new to ITM as well, I could not tell you with any certainty whether or not you can monitor application threads with it. That would be more along the lines of TAPM.

Is there a technical exchange of resource models that anyone knows of or somewhere where you can get basic resource models and build upon them othere than the one tivoli provides

We just hosted a Tivoli SWUG meeting in May, and nothing yet.

I think people are trying to get their hands around the stuff that comes in the box right now. We're working on a few custom models, but we're still in the requirements gathering stage.

Any updates on this. I am looking to do some custom monitors but am in a situation where I dont have a lot of javascript knowledge and cannot really find any sites to go look at examples of other monitors.
