We began using POP about 5 years ago. I think we started at order number 40,000

We will roll over to POP order number 100,000 in the next couple of months. I would like to reset the "next order number" to say 15,000. Then in a couple of years purge old orders between 40,000 and 100,000.

I already suffer too many keystroke errors from users and I think a shorter number is easier to work with.

Has anyone done something like this: Purging old POP orders & recycling the numbers? If so, are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You should be fine but I have found that sometimes there are orphan records in the IMORDBLD.BTR. Especially in the old version that you are running. I would create a Crysatl Report with a left outer join between the IMORDBKD.BTR and the PPORDFIL to find these. Other wise when you create an order that matches the orphaned lines the will cause you issues.
